| Welcome to The Coon Club Online |
|
In the mid 1950’s a group of coon hunters got together to come up with a plan to
promote their dedication to the preservation of the tradition of coon hunting in
northern Illinois. After much discussion and planning, a not for profit organization
called the Coon and Fox Hunters Association of Northern Illinois was formed.
A trust was formed for the purpose of purchasing some land. Through donations,
dues, and fund raising they were able to buy 70 acres of land on the Sugar River in
northern Winnebago County, Illinois. They have purchased another adjoining 40 acres since then.
The true strength of this organization is the fellowship of a brotherhood of likeminded hunters and outdoorsmen. A strong emphasis is focused on training the youthful members in gun safety courses, practicing on our rifle range, and going along to experience the skills necessary to be a champion night coon hunter.
Family is important to us and many of the members camp out most of the weekends of each summer. Throw in a couple of fishing tournaments just for grins. The biggest family event open to the public is the annual Bluegrass Festival at the end of August. A free, all acoustical equipment, no paid bands, jam session for three days.
Come and enjoy the Coon Club with us.
